3D Horseshoe Crab Assemblage by Sarahorsomeone
3D Horseshoe Crab Assemblage
This piece of art was born out of a Google binge in which I read all sorts about horseshoe crabs (I have no idea why I started Googling them in the first place) and discovered that you could buy the molted shells* quite cheaply. Anyway, I bought a set of shells of different sizes on impulse, and decided to colour them silver using liquid leaf, before affixing them in a box frame along with some ribbon, freshwater pearls and a cockle shell (which has been polished to reveal the mother of pearl underneath). To make the border I used torn strips of linen textured card which I also coloured with liquid leaf. This one is going in my living room!

*Horseshoe crabs naturally shed their shells on a regular basis in order to grow larger; thus no crabs were harmed in the making of this artwork!
Grey-White Star Sapphire and Moonstone Bracelet by Sarahorsomeone
Grey-White Star Sapphire and Moonstone Bracelet
A delicate little bracelet made in sterling silver using the last of the batch of natural star sapphires I bought (a grey-white one of about 7 mm in diameter), this bracelet also features a small but high quality faceted moonstone (of about 5 mm) at the clasp. Both stones are in bezel settings.
Seriema Study by Sarahorsomeone
Seriema Study
Sketch of a red-legged Seriema, or the face of one anyway. I used a photograph I took myself (at Tropical Wings Zoo in Essex) as a reference. This particular bird was rather fond of chasing small children up and down as they walked alongside its enclosure. Drawn in pencil, scanned and then finished in Photoshop.
Blue Star Sapphire and Iolite Bracelet by Sarahorsomeone
Blue Star Sapphire and Iolite Bracelet
Sterling silver king's pattern (byzantine) bracelet with an 8mm bezel set natural blue star sapphire, and an 'S' initial charm and 4mm iolite at the clasp. Made by me, and I'm keeping this one!

Hmm... what to put.

I live in the UK with my two pet birds while studying for an undergraduate degree in health sciences. This is possibly helped by my strange ability to remember all kinds of weird Latin anatomical names whilst not being able to remember the name of the person sitting next to me. I'm particularly fascinated by human anatomy, physiology and medical microbiology.

As for the more artistic side of things, when I get the time, I work on everything from traditional art, photography, photo-manipulation and a variety of artisan crafts. Although a fair bit of the work I do is digital, above all things I like to work with my hands; the smaller and fiddlier the better! As you may have guessed, my gallery is quite eclectic in style, medium and subject.

When not studying or doing arty/crafty things I love to fence. Partly because it gives me a legitimate reason to poke people. ^_^
I haven't been around much recently, I was very busy preparing for exams and then had to have a small operation the week after. I've got some work to do over the summer break but otherwise I'm fairly free so hope to photograph and/or finish a few artisan craft pieces I have in the works. I should have some new things to upload over the next few weeks.

Sarah :-)

I realized I locked my forum thread and hence couldn't reply to your comment there about the "coloured light effect" in my work.

I'll let you in on a little secret... Sometimes I just put a very transparent coloured layer on top of things and keep painting above it. ;) That and applying amusing colour correction effects in my painting software once I'm finished. Sometimes if it ends up looking weird I end up painting some more to adjust it again.

We do have a digital medium at our hands, might as well make the most of it ;D
